For our last night in Montepllier, L and her friend arranged a dinner at La Guinguette des Amoureux, a restaurant that overlooked the Lac de Ceceles, a gorgeously clear blue lake in Saint Mathieu de Treviers, a village about 20 km from Montpellier. The restaurant exuded a bohemian vibe with a reggae music soundtrack and super chill but attentive waiters. In the summers, they have weekly music concerts with an eclectic mix of up and coming artists from all over the world. Just a really unique spot all around.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were given a table with a fantastic view of the lake. Everything on the menu was from the surrounding region from the fish to the vegetables. I had the trout tartare for an appetizer, cow cheek in a special sauce with local vegetables for my entree, and for dessert, I had the mille-feuille with pears, although I also dug in generously at P’s delicious citron tart. Everything was so good! La Guinguette des Amoureux was a little hidden gem that P and I would have never discovered if we hadn’t visited L and C. It’s definitely a local secret! So fortunate that we were able to join in on all the fun!
