With Hurricane Arthur looming, the city of Boston made a decision to move the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular from the 4th of July to the 3rd. So, our 4th of July weekend festivities began early this year!
P and I started off the three day weekend with drinks at home while watching the Boston Pops Concert on television to wind down from our hectic work week. Then it was off to the Esplanade for some fireworks! We got a sweet spot with a perfect view and within 15 minutes of sitting down, the fireworks display began. Perfect timing. For about half an hour, the whole city was silent, gazing up at the sparkles in the sky.
After the fireworks ended, P and I started heading towards home, only a short walk away from the Esplanade. The crowds from the Esplanade filled the streets, and all the cars on the roads were stuck. A lot of honking and yelling ensued. But, the crowds walked on, taking over the streets of Boston.
It was still a clear night when we made it home. But, when I looked out the window a minute later, Hurricane Arthur swooped in out of nowhere and took over the city. People were running in all directions, trying to take cover, and the trees along the sidewalk were bowing down to Sir Arthur. Lucky for us, P and I were safe and sound and dry in our cozy home. Perfect timing… again.
Hurricane Arthur was still abrewin’ on the 4th of July, ruining our plans to go biking along the Charles River. Instead, we headed to dinner downtown at Joe’s American Bar & Grill with our good friends, A and Y. Fitting for the 4th, no? Mac and cheese, ribs, chili, and beer. Can’t get anymore American than that!
The grub…
Dessert… (Georgetown Cupcakes)
Stomachs happy! (Can’t stop us, Hurricane Arthur!)
Happy 4th of July!
