Since moving to the Bay Area, P and I are trying to make a conscious effort to go into the city as often as possible and explore. We thought that we would be going into SF all the time, but that didn’t really happen. We live only about 20 miles from the city, but with traffic, it feels more like 50 miles and takes about an hour or more. So, with that, whenever we had a free weekend, we opted to visit wine country, or Monterey county, both areas that were further away, but only took about an hour and on less frequented and congested roads.
When we do finally make a visit up to SF, we always make sure to start out with food because… why not?! We want to take advantage of the amazing and innovative food culture in Northern California, especially in city. D is one of my best friends from high school who knows all things food in SF, so we met up with her and her boyfriend, E, for a day of eating, hiking, and sunset viewing.
First, it was brunch at Marla Bakery in the Outer Richmond district. Really fresh and tasty menu, but the portions were small, which left all of us still feeling hungry afterwards…
So, we headed to Devil’s Teeth Baking Company for dessert… well, more like a second meal… The best, yummiest, and heartiest breakfast sandwiches and a delicious cinnamon roll for something sweet.
Finally full, we headed to Lands End for a short hike… with all the weekend locals and tourists. It was packed when we arrived and parking was tough. The trail, itself, is relatively flat aside from a few stairs, but the views are stunning. It seemed that every few minutes on the trail, P and I would look at each other and both silently acknowledge how deliriously happy and blessed we were to be living in California.
And to end the day in the city, D took us to her favorite spot for a SF sunset at Grand View Park…
