Here we are again, in beautiful Lake Tahoe, a place that always takes my breath away with every visit! This time, we came in early fall for my cousin’s wedding, and it truly is the best time to see Tahoe. The summer crowds are gone, but the weather is still perfect for swimming and hiking.
With some time to explore before the wedding, we decided to try the hike to Maggie’s Peak, for supposed 360 degree views. But, of course, we took the wrong turn and ended up going to Cascade Falls, which was just as beautiful with views of Lake Tahoe, Cascade Lake and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the distance. We also took the pup along, and she loved climbing the rocks and hiking along the trail with us.
The next morning, we decided to take the pup with us on a short hike to Skunk Harbor, which we heard was an amazing little beach that was dog friendly and less crowded. The ~1.5 mile hike down was a breeze but going back up took a bit longer. The higher altitude didn’t help and I think me being out of shape didn’t help either…
Because we got there early, we had the place all to ourselves to explore. The Newhall House sits right on the edge of Skunk Harbor, and was built by a prominent family as a summer retreat. You can peak in the windows and envision the awesome summer parties that were held along the lake.
We were so lucky that we got to explore some new places during our time here at the lake. Thanks to the bride and groom for giving us an excuse to visit and have yet another amazing adventure in this beautiful little part of the country! Congrats to the happy couple!
