5 Best Family Travel Destinations in the World

We love to travel abroad as a family and have visited our fair share of countries. Here are our top 5 favorite family and kid friendly travel destinations that everyone should add to their bucket list

(1) Ireland

Ireland reigns supreme in being the most kid-friendly countries to visit! We traveled throughout Ireland with our 5 month old baby and we have never felt so welcomed and supported as new parents, starting from arrival. Upon landing in Dublin, we were spotted, shuttled to a separate and much shorter family immigration customs line. When I had to buy more formula for the baby, I was at the grocery store staring dauntingly at all the endless formula options in the aisle when a local started chatting with me and shared her favorite baby formula brand. While Phil and I were enjoying our sit down meal in a local pub, the waitress asked if she could hold our little one and while we got to enjoy our delicious meal, she played with him, snuggled him and showed him off to all of the diners in the restaurant. People were so genuine and friendly. So many examples of how people in Ireland really recognized families and kids, and we left with such a wonderful impression of the Irish people.

(2) Budapest, Hungary

Hungary, specifically Budapest, was a lovely surprise for all of us. As part of our Prague, Salzburg, Vienna trip, we added Budapest as our last stop and it was the perfect end to our vacation. Aidan was almost 2 years old at the time and we visited Széchenyi Baths, the Great Hall and Fisherman’s Bastion. There’s so much to see and do, the food is diverse and delicious and the city is really affordable and budget-friendly.

(3) Thailand

Thailand was the perfect place to visit with our barely walking toddler (almost 1 year at the time). We traveled with Aidan to Krabi for the beaches and tropical vibes and then to Chiang Mai for the Yi Peng lantern festival and Loy Krathong flower basket festival. There was so much to do and enjoy and the food was a favorite for our family, including Aidan. The Thai people were also so accommodating and playful with Aidan, despite his tantrums. (4) Taiwan

We loved traveling to Taiwan as a family. In Taipei specifically, the people are so friendly, the food was magnificent and affordable and we found it really easy to get around. Despite being a large busy city, people still took time or went out of their way to help us. There was also plenty of playgrounds to get those wiggles out!

(5) Switzerland

For all the nature lovers and those that like to be outside all of the time, Switzerland is for you, especially areas around the lakes and mountains. We took our family to Lauterbrunnen Valley for the summer and it was epic trip for both the parents and our toddlers. We’ve also taken our 5 month old (at the time) on the Glacier Express train to Zermatt to see family. Let me just say that traveling by train through Switzerland is always a huge hit with kids, no matter the age! There really is just so much to do and see outside that it’s perfect for all members of the family.
