For P’s birthday, we took advantage of the three day weekend in January and drove down to Big Sur for a two night stay at the glamping mecca of Northern California, the Treebones Resort. This isolated resort is an hour south of Big Sur Station and an hour north of San Simeon, perched along the Santa Lucia mountains. The prices were steep and we had to book months in advance. But, when would we ever have the chance to stay in a cozy yurt, be one with nature, and have the ocean sing us to sleep?
We read our kindles and sipped wine on the andorak chairs outside of our yurt as the sun set. We took naps on the Kodama Zome swing and explored the organic garden on the property. We had a long relaxing dinner at the Treebones restaurant where we were serenaded by a live acoustic guitar and warmed by the large communal fireplace.
What really made this place special was the location of the property. The Santa Lucia mountains served as a backdrop to the resort and we had stunning views of billowing trees and crashing waves from the comfort of our yurt patio.
All in all, a wonderfully relaxing weekend! Not sure if we’ll shell out the steep prices again for this glamping getaway, but it was quite the experience!
