A Day Trip to Cassis, France

Initially, Cassis was a “maybe” on our list of places that we wanted to go to while travelling through France, but friends started recommending that P and I visit this little town along the Mediterranean between Nice and Marseille. We decided to visit this village on our way from Nice to Montpellier, the next stop of our trip. What started out as a quick stop to see the views became a full day excursion with boating, hiking, and sunbathing.

Cassis is famous for its calanques, steep valleys or coves along the Mediterranean. P and I had a bite to eat when we first arrived and then took a boat tour of eight different calanques. The towering white cliffs that surrounded us was worth the visit.

After the boat tour, we headed towards the calanques, hoping to find a nice beach spot. Because it would have taken 2 hours to get to the nearest beach, we opted for the cliffs themselves. After hiking along the calanques, we settled on a nice smooth area of cliff with our towels and a good book and soaked in the sun.

It was hard to say goodbye to the views from this little seaside village, but we were also excited to head to Montpellier to see P’s brother, C, and C’s girlfriend, L. Au revoir, Cassis! I hope we meet again!
