A Day at La Feria de Cordoba

We visited Cordoba during the week of the Cordoba Spring Fair (La Feria de Cordoba), the largest culminating event of the year in the city. The venue for the fiesta is a fairground at El Arenal, a quick 10 minute walk from our hotel (Hesperia Córdoba) and a 20 minute walk from the historical center of town. Check out our Cordoba Travel Guide for more ideas of things to do and eat when visiting!

Festive music, flamenco dancing, and happy party goers flow out of each “caseta” (tent) where locals enjoy various tapas and large amounts of rebujitos, the La Feria drink of choice. Unlike the very popular Feria de Abril in Seville, all the “casetas” at the La Feria de Córdoba are open to the public, which makes La Feria in Córdoba that much more fun. Horse carriages make their way down the main street and happy screams can be heard from the carnival rides in the distance. Women flaunt their colorful flamenco dresses and the men dress in their traditional hat and suits.

I wished that I could swish around in a bright polka-dotted red flamenco dress, tossing and flapping my Spanish lace fan about. But, I settled for a colorful summer dress, and Phil and I were off to celebrate with the locals! We went during the late afternoon before dinner and then headed back to the fair grounds afterwards to see all the lights and the evening festivities. So fun to be a part of annual Córdoba tradition!
